Aerith Gainsborough

for Aerith

the pinky ribbon on her hair perhaps I never could forget.
the haunting rays of sunshine fair still seem to around me beset.
the fair plaits caressing her face in a saddest sunny weather,
her dress brightened with golden rays, these I could not forget either.

it only was a dream of yore away - the lifestream brought her far.
she will be always twenty-four like in the old town of Midgar,
the sweet maiden who sold sweet flowers! now all the flowers did depart.
she possessed the healing powers, but could she heal my bleeding heart?

in old Midgar town gray and lusk, the day's last sun rays still glitter.
I tread the alleys in the dusk just like an unknown visitor.
the flowers are blooming in the church. the organ is playing for a while.
the girl for long I am in search, I see her standing in the aisle.

her pinky ribbon and her dress, how can they only be a dream?
the silhouette of gracefulness standing behind a mist of gleam,
she quietly looks at me, so close yet much further than myriad years.
and as the organ music grows, she smiles - then gently disappears...

the withered flowers are lying dead near the altar, on my fingers.
there is no organ music, yet a secret fragrance still lingers
around the church's most holy place, and I still feel her tender smile
being pervasive 'round my pace as I walk out the empty aisle.

I pass again the Midgar's night, along the quiet nameless street
and feel her somehow - though no sight - walking so lightly by my feet.
farewell to Midgar! I must go and take the long road by my own.
but from this moment on, I know I will no longer be alone...
